SALT MAKING CLASS AT SALTY ACRES

 Slow Food Whidbey Island is partnering with Salty Acres Farm to bring you a very unique experience!  Have you ever been to a salt-producing facility?  Whidbey has its very own manufacturer, right here on the island.  Kim Gruetter will show you her procedure and let you sample many of the varieties they produce.  Learn how to put together special blends of their salts and take home a sample which you have mixed yourself. 

The event will include a tour of their farm including their beachfront on Penn Cove where they have clam, oyster and mussel beds.  The water of Penn Cove is also the source of the salt they produce.    The tour will continue with a walk through their beautiful flower and vegetable gardens with a stop to visit with some of their farm animals including pigs, chickens and turkeys.  Pick up some additional salt packets or bouquets of flowers at their farm stand at the entrance to the farm.

To learn more about Salty Acres Farm, go to their website at https://www.saltyacresfarm.com.  Cost for this event will be $35.00 for Slow Food members and $40.00 for non-members and the event will be open to the public.  Attendance is limited so be sure to reserve early.  The 10:00 class has sold out but we have added a second class from 1:00 pm to 2:30 pm and there are a few spaces left.
